Pet Safety & Health Tips
- Ensure that children are at a safe distance during installation. Educate them about the dangers of the fence once it's active.
- Clear the fence line of foliage or other materials that will drain energy from the net (e.g. tall grass/weeds and tree limbs).
- Consider having a secondary non-electric fence or barrier in place, especially if your animals are prone to escaping or if the electric fence might fail (due to power issues, for example).
- Wet conditions can enhance electrical conductivity. It's safest to install and handle the netting when both you and the ground are dry.
- Metal can interfere with the fence's operation. Keep the netting away from large metal objects or surfaces.
- Even if the netting is pre-assembled, it often requires a separate grounding rod or stake. Ensure it's properly installed to make the fence effective and safe.
- Ensure there's no buildup of dry grass or debris near the fence, as it can be a potential fire hazard.
- When installing, ensure that the posts are spaced as per the manufacturer's recommendations to avoid sagging or collapsing.
- Always remember to supervise and regularly inspect your fence to ensure optimal operation and safety for your livestock.

4 Great Reasons To Choose Our Electric Netting Fence
-
Easy Installation & Mobility
AForget cumbersome setups. Our electric netting boasts a user-friendly design that requires minimal effort – making it a one-man job. Integrated fiberglass posts spaced at every 11 ft mean no additional tools are required. Plus, the 8 pegs and guy-lines offer extra stability at vital points such as corners and curves. Designed to be lightweight and portable, it's perfect for those who need quick solutions on the go. -
Advanced Design for Maximum Safety
With 18 horizontal strands (14 of which are conductive) featuring graduated spacing, our fence ensures smaller chicks remain safely inside while the top is designed to prevent sagging. The strategic non-electrification of the bottom 2 strands prevents any unwanted electrical shorting due to weed growth. -
Robust & Reliable for Peace of Mind
Crafted to endure even windy conditions, the Pet & Livestock HQ electric netting guarantees durability. The close spacing of the bottom 6 strands, at just 3" apart, ensures even the smallest chicks can't slip through, while the 11 conductive strands act as a formidable barrier against any predators. Simplified Electrification Process
While the package doesn’t include an energiser, electrifying your fence couldn’t be easier. We recommend pairing with the Pet & Livestock HQ solar fence energiser for optimal results – a favourite among free range farmers and rotational graziers for its hassle-free setup and consistent performance.

Electric Netting Fence FAQs
What materials are used in the electric netting fence?
• Spike: Stainless steel (provides reliable grounding)
• Posts: ABS plastic with fibreglass reinforcement
• Wire: Low-resistance copper for optimal power conductivity
How do I ground the electrical system properly?
Drive a grounding rod deep into the soil and connect it to the ground terminal on your energiser. In dry or sandy conditions, water the soil around the rod regularly to improve conductivity.
What energiser output is recommended for this fence?
• Small animals: Use an energiser with a minimum output of 0.05 joules
• Larger or resistant animals: Use 1.5 joules or higher
• Standard setup (100 metres): A 0.5-joule energiser is recommended
If vegetation is heavy, increase output to 1–1.5 joules for best performance.
Why is my fence shorting or grounding out?
Check for the following:
• Vegetation contact: Ensure the bottom strand isn't touching grass or plants
• Poor grounding: Make sure the grounding rod is deep enough and properly connected to the energiser
Can I connect multiple electric net fences together?
Yes. You can connect up to 5 fences in series using one power source. The copper wire ensures low resistance and minimal voltage drop across the combined layout.
What is the resistance level of the fence?
• Per metre: 0.2 ohms
• Per 50 metres: 12 ohms
This is significantly lower than standard fencing (which can exceed 50–60 ohms), allowing for longer and more efficient runs.
How many energisers are needed for 4–5 fences connected together?
Only one energiser is required, thanks to the low-resistance copper wire design. Ensure your energiser’s joule rating matches the total fence length and vegetation level.
Can I shorten the netting fence?
Yes. Simply fold back the excess netting to double-layer it—do not cut the wire, as this will break the electrical circuit.
Can I leave excess netting rolled up?
Yes, but note:
• Rolled sections still conduct electricity, which increases resistance
• Ensure your energiser is powerful enough to maintain voltage across the full system
Can I use a plug-in charger instead of a solar energiser?
Yes. Plug-in energisers are perfectly suitable when mains power is available. Always take safety precautions during installation, especially in wet conditions.
How can I access the fenced area for feeding, mowing, or water checks?
You can:
• Install a compatible gate (sold separately)
• Disconnect power, wear insulated gloves, remove a post for access, then reconnect power after replacing the post
How do I repair broken plastic on the fence?
Use non-metallic rope (2–3 mm thick) to tie and secure broken plastic strands.
Can I use an energiser with 3.1 joules of output?
Yes, the fence can safely handle 3.1 joules. However, this output produces a strong shock and is not suitable for small animals.
Can the fence be used as a 3-sided enclosure?
Yes. If one side is already enclosed (e.g., by hog wire), you can use the netting fence to form the other three sides. Just connect one end of the netting to the energiser.
Is the fence suitable for large areas and dense vegetation?
Yes. The copper wire construction allows for reliable performance over large areas, even with thick vegetation. Use a 1–1.5 joule energiser for best results in such conditions
Can I create a gate using the existing netting?
Yes. To make a temporary gate:
1. Disconnect the power supply
2. Remove one post to create an opening
3. Enter or exit, then replace the post and restore power
Can the netting fence be used alongside steel or page wire fencing?
No. Using it near steel posts or page wire fences may cause electrical interference and reduce system effectiveness. Maintain distance from solid metal structures.
