Frequently Asked Questions
What does the “EU” error on the monitor mean?
The “EU” error typically occurs if:
• A test strip has been reused or is wet.
• Blood was applied before inserting the test strip.
How to resolve it:
1. Turn off the meter and insert the appropriate code chip (dog or cat). Wait for "OK" to display, then remove the chip.
2. Insert a new test strip. You should see the temperature, code number, and then a water drop symbol indicating it’s ready for use.
3. If the error persists, the meter may be faulty and require replacement.
What do the error codes “E-b” and “E-t” mean?
• E-b: The battery is low and needs replacement.
• E-t: The meter is outside the operating temperature range (10–40°C). Allow it to stabilise within that range before testing.
Why does my pet's reading sometimes show “Hi” or “Lo”?
This is often due to:
• Insufficient blood sample – ensure the strip fills completely in one go.
• Incorrect code chip – always use the correct one for dogs or cats.
• Exposed or expired test strips – seal the vial tightly after each use.
Note: Stress can temporarily elevate blood glucose in cats. For accurate results, use fresh strips and follow testing guidelines precisely.
What does the ketone symbol mean?
The ketone warning appears if the glucose reading exceeds 250 mg/dL (13.9 mmol/L). This could indicate uncontrolled blood sugar, which may lead to serious symptoms such as vomiting or disorientation.
Contact your veterinarian immediately.
What is the ideal blood glucose range for dogs and cats?
• Dogs: 90–180 mg/dL (5.0–10.0 mmol/L)
• Cats: 90–250 mg/dL (5.0–13.9 mmol/L)
Readings outside this range should be reviewed by your vet.
How can I view previous readings?
Press the “M” button:
• It shows 7, 14, 21, and 28-day averages.
• Continue pressing to view individual readings with date and time.
Why do readings at home differ from those taken at the vet?
Veterinarians often use venous blood samples, while home monitors test capillary blood (e.g., from the ear or paw). Capillary readings can be slightly higher. For clinical accuracy, venous samples analysed in a lab are preferred.
What if I can’t get enough blood from my pet?
• Warm the test site (ear, paw, etc.) with a warm cloth or gentle blower to encourage blood flow.
• If this persists, ask your vet to recommend the best site and technique for your pet.
Can I change the unit of measurement on the glucometer?
Yes, you can toggle between mg/dL and mmol/L.
Refer to the user manual for detailed instructions.
How do I use the lancing device?
1. Insert the lancet and remove the safety cap.
2. Reattach the device head securely and choose a depth (Level 3 is standard).
3. Pull back the handle until it clicks, then press the release button. Hold the device firmly on the site for a few seconds to ensure proper blood collection.
What is the glucometer's measuring range?
It measures between 20–600 mg/dL (1.1–33.3 mmol/L).
Readings outside this range will appear as “Lo” or “Hi”.
What size are the lancets?
Lancets are 28-gauge, offering a fine point suitable for small animals.
How do I use the control solution?
The control solution simulates blood to verify meter and strip accuracy:
1. Insert the appropriate code chip and a test strip.
2. Apply the control solution instead of blood.
3. Confirm that the reading matches the control range printed on the test strip vial.
Why are code chips necessary?
Code chips calibrate the meter to each batch of test strips, ensuring accurate readings. Always use the correct chip for dogs or cats and insert it when opening a new vial.
Can I delete or label control solution tests in memory?
No. The meter automatically stores all readings. If a control test is saved, note it manually in your logbook.
Over time, new test data will overwrite it.
